Top Five Essential Oils for Stress Relief

We all deal with stress in our lives. We go through seasons that are really, really tough. Knowing how strong our Limbic System is, we can use the appropriate essential oils to help nurture our mind and body while battling periods of stress, depression, and uneasiness.

When dealing with moments of stress, the most quickest way to find relief is to use the oils aromatically. We see that our Limbic System is loaded with millions of receptors in our nose, so by sniffing an oil or diffusing it into the air, we are able to find a fast relief.

The Top Five Essential Oils for Stress

1. Lavender

Lavender is the most common essential oil used and, thus, known as the “universal oil”.  So much research has been done on lavender oil, and it is one oil you never want to be without. When it comes to stress, lavender has a very calming effect on our body and the aroma is very soothing. I’m excited to see many hospitals and schools are choosing to diffuse lavender to provide a more peaceful and calming environment.

2. Frankincense

Frankincense has been used for medicinal and religious purposes for thousands of years. It has a very warm and comforting, exotic aroma that has a relaxing effect on the human body including uplifting mood and heightening awareness.

3. Serenity Blend

Serenity is a doTERRA “calming” blend of Lavender, Roman Chamomile, Sandalwood, Sweet Marjoram, Vanilla, and Ylang Ylang. Each of these oils are known for their calming effects and ability to ease tension. This is a wonderful oil to use on children before sleep…or yourself if you have a hard time sleeping at night.

4. Balancing Blend

Balance is doTERRA’s “grounding” blend of Spruce, Ho Wood, Frankincense, Blue Tansy, and Blue Chamomile. This is my personal favorite oil to use. It’s now become part of my morning ritual to apply this oil to body as I am getting ready for the day. The oils in this blend are geared towards the central nervous system and is an excellent option to use when you are feeling stressed, confused, doubtful, anxious, or unsettled. This is an excellent oil to choose if you are dealing with unsettled emotions, temper problems, or mood swings.

5. Elevation Blend

This is another personal favorite and is known as doTERRA’s “joyful” blend.  This blend consists of Elemi, Lavandin, Lemon Myrtle, Melissa, Osmanthus, Sandalwood, Ylang Ylang, and Tangerine. This blend addresses issues with attention, depression, anxiety, fatigue, hopelessness, and stress.

How to Take These Oils:

  1. Take a detox bath with 10 drops in the bathtub. 
  2. Diffuse at home or at work. 
  3. Inhale directly from the bottle.
  4. Apply directly to your heart, base of skull, or bottoms of feet.
  5. Dilute with a carrier oil (fractionated coconut oil, jojoba, almond oil) and rub on shoulders, neck and spine.
  6. Apply to a clay necklace and wear the oils all day long.
